The James Family Prescott YMCA’S Aquatics Facility offers fun for the whole family! While enjoying activities in the pool area, please be sure to follow all posted rules and the instruction of the lifeguards. The lifeguards are highly motivated by the YMCA’s mission and are trained to prevent injuries and accidents before they happen. It's always time to get yourself and your family water-safe! With a staff of YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor and American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors our swim lessons teach participants to be safe in, on, and around water. All of our swim instructors care about the progress of you or yourr child and will do what it takes to get your child comfotable in the water, learn the strokes, or refine all strokes they have been previously taught. Don't know what level to register for? Come to one of our Swim Assessment dates on our swim lesson schedule! These are free and for you and your child so you may register for the right class. Have you been taking lessons with us or taken lessons before? These dates are also great for returning or new participants. If you are unable to attend an assessment see our lesson selector for an approximate reading of where to register your child.
Swim Starters Welcome Letter: Thank you for registering or considering registration for our Swim Starters Program (6 months to 3 years of age). Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and dvelop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence- building experiences, while parents learn abou twataer safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision.
Swim Basics (Stages 1-3) Welcome Letter:Thank you for registering or considering registration for our Swim Basics Program. This program focuses on water safety and is the YMCA Safety Around Water Program. Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills:
Skill 1: Swim, float, swim
Skill 2: Jump, push, turn, grab
Swim Strokes (Stages 4-6) Welcome Letter: Thank you for registering or considering registration for our Swim Storkes Program. Students have mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity.
Private and Semi-Private lessons
Are available upon request. Complete this form: Private Lesson Request Form, pay for the number of lessons you wish to receive and an instructor will contact you within 5-10 business days.
Aquatic exercise is a low-impact activity that takes the pressure off your bones, joints and muscles. Water offers natural resistance, which helps strengthen your muscles. You can even do aquatic exercise if you don’t know how to swim. If you’re looking for a way to get your workout in, have fun and feel great when you’re done try one of our water aerobic classes. Scouts earn their swimming merit badges as they learn about safety when swimming and diving and how swimming can contribute to overall fitness and health. Basic competitive swimming skills are also discussed. Scouts must bring their merit badge application cards for completion. A change of clothes is recommended.
