Prescott YMCA Camps...A good place to grow...
Welcome to Camp. For
generations, the YMCA has been known for its commitment to family life. YMCA
programs and services have grown and adapted to the changing needs of families.
Today, more and more parents are looking for quality, yet affordable summer camp
they can depend on. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun environment. Like all Y
programs, camp is open to all, with financial aid available. Our well-trained
staff will support and nurture your child's healthy development. Together with
you, the parent, we can help our children grow up healthy, happy and strong.

To put Christian principles
into practice, through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for
all.

SUMMER
CAMPS
Tired of hearing "I'm bored"
all summer? Send your kids to Y Camp. They'll enjoy swimming, climbing,
teambuilding, camp songs, sports, field trips, arts & crafts and other
activities. Plus they get to hang out with the coolest staff in Prescott. Each week we
will have a new theme to keep things interesting. They will come home each
evening with stories to tell about new friends and positive experiences.
The remodeled Lindquist Family Park
will bring new opportunities for our campers this summer. Park features include
grass field, running track, 4 ramadas, and low ropes
course.
Warning: Side effects
(parental benefits) may include happy kids who are excited to get up each
morning and tired kids who go to bed on time. If you would not like to
experience these side effects, your children should not attend our
fun-packed Camps.
Our Camps are designed to
promote active learning. We use active
play to help our "Y" Campers discover, learn and grow. Experiences and activities are selectively
planned by our "Y" Center to provide your child with a wide variety of
opportunities to discover, learn, grow, and make decisions throughout their
stay with us. Our primary goal is to
help promote the maximum development of children. That includes their physical, emotional,
social, intellectual, creative and spiritual self. We've carefully prepared a developmentally
appropriated environment which provides a place for your child to feel
significant and successful.
SEND A KID
TO CAMP
Summer Camp is a place where
kids can learn valuable character building lessons, learn a new skill, or make
new friends. Unfortunately, many children are unable to experience this, simply
because of their inability to pay. We at the Y strive to give every child the
chance to attend camp through the Send A Kid To Camp Fund. This fund allows
most children to experience camp through financial aid and scholarships made
possible by generous donations.
Please help us achieve our
goal, and give to the 2008 Send A Kid To Camp Campaign. 100% of every dollar
raised goes directly to the fund, there are no overhead or administrative
costs. Tax deductible.
LEADERSHIP
The YMCA staff has been
chosen on the basis of their interest in youth, maturity, patience, leadership
qualities, education and experience. The
Camp staff has completed the YMCA Staff Training, is certified in CPR and First
Aid as well as has completed the National YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Training
and OSHA / bloodborne pathogen training.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS
The Prescott YMCA is pleased
to provide financial assistance for those in need. Qualifying is based on
individual need. Scholarship applications are available at the YMCA Membership Desk.
Prior to applying, please contact the Department of Economic Security (DES) to
see if you are eligible for childcare assistance. The Y needs a verbal or
written notification from DES regarding your status prior to processing a
scholarship.
CHARACTER
VALUES
During the day to day
interaction of everyday life, Y staff have an opportunity to demonstrate the
values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Open daily discussion
will take place regarding the treatment and appreciation of others. Routinely,
children will be recognized for their efforts in practicing these four aspects
of character. These qualities form the philosophic foundation and behavioral
guidance for all Y programs. When staff strive to uphold these characteristics,
they stand out as landmarks for character development in our children. The
Prescott YMCA is proud to embrace these four aspects of character.

$30.00 registration free per child is required at the time of enrollment. This
initial fee processes your child's application and helps cover the cost of

PARENT
INVOLVEMENT
The staff of the program
knows that parents are the first and most important teachers/nurturers. Our job is to work in partnership with the
families to ensure the welfare of each child. Our staff will respond
professionally to your concerns and questions.
We ask that you speak to our staff when they can be responsive, without
the responsibility of supervising children.
Phone calls are always welcome and will be returned from the staff as
soon as possible.
So that we can keep accurate
records for the well-being of the children, please keep all important
information current: addresses, phone
numbers, medical forms, personal histories, and please respond to all requests
for information from staff.
From time to time, parents
will be given the opportunity to participate in activities or contribute small
items to the program. We would like to hear from you. Contact your site
director with any of your suggestions, comments, or ideas.
Please be sure to sign in
and out daily and look for information that we may send you in regards to
upcoming events and days off.
ILLNESS /
MEDICATION
If a child is not well
enough to participate in all of the days' scheduled activities, then he / she
is not well enough to attend. If a child has a sore throat, fever, or displays
obvious signs of illness, a parent will be contacted to pick up their child.
The YMCA does not distribute medication of any kind. No medication should be
sent to the Y with a child.
SIGN-IN /
OUT PROCEDURE
The YMCA takes
responsibility for your child while he or she is in our care. A daily sign in/out is required. We require full signatures along with the
time in/out. Proper picture identification
will be required at the beginning of the program and for the designated pick-up
person who must be on your authorized pick-up list. If a parent or pick-up person knows he/she
will be late to pick up the child, please contact the YMCA ASAP. This, however, will not excuse the parent from
receiving the appropriate warning or late fee.
There is a $1.00 per minute late fee per child for pick-ups after
6:00pm. Only those people designated on
the pick-up list will be allowed to take the child from the YMCA. The designated person must be at least 18
years of age. If there is an emergency
and someone other than you or a designated person needs to pick up your child,
please call us so that we can help you make appropriate arrangements. Please be cooperative in regard to this
policy, as it has been designed for the safety of your child.
FIELD
TRIPS
Periodically field trips may
be scheduled. Bus transportation will be provided by PUSD. Children are to
remain seated at all times. Staff will assist all children on and off the
buses. Information will be posted in advance and will require a parent /
guardian written authorization. A transportation fee may be charged.
EMERGENCIES
In the event of a minor
accident or incident, staff will render first-aid. A report will be filed and
the parent informed at the end of the day. If an accident appears to be more
serious, a parent will be contacted for further instructions. If an incident is
critical, the YMCA will act on behalf of the child's best interest, at the
expense of the parent.
LIABILITY
INSURANCE
The YMCA provides liability
insurance as required by law. The Prescott YMCA does not provide medical
insurance relative to accidents or injuries sustained as a result of a program
related activity.
CONFIDENTIALITY
All information contained
within your child's file and all conversation is considered confidential. The program is restricted by law from
releasing confidential information on any individual, agency, or school
district without first obtaining permission from the parent to do so.
LOST AND FOUND
A lost and found box is
located at each site. Contact your site director with any lost item. Items left
over 30 days may be donated to local charities. Please write your child's name
on everything.
GUIDANCE
& DISCIPLINE
It is the goal of the YMCA
to guide children in being happy, responsible, cooperative participants through
positive, respectful teaching techniques.
The staff works to increase children's respect for themselves by guiding
them to become responsible for their own actions and help them grow in their
respect for the rights and feelings of others.
Program policies are
designed to meet state requirements to ensure the safety and well-being of all
program participants, staff, vehicles and facility security.
Tobacco products, drugs,
alcohol, stealing, fighting, unsafe behavior, leaving the group, property
damage or violence is not consistent with the core values we are trying to
convey in our childcare programs. For this reason, it will not be permitted on
YMCA property. Furthermore, in creating programs that enhance a child's growth
in caring, honesty, respect and responsibility; ethnic jokes, swearing and / or
name calling will not be permitted in the program.
Our commitment is to make
reasonable accommodations to meet the needs of each child. Based on our goal of working in partnership
with parents to keep each child safe and happy in our program, we will be
honest and respectful in communicating with parents about their children. At the same time, the YMCA expects the full
cooperation of parents to ensure that any plan developed to support the child
in the program will be successful.
Discipline shall not damage
the child's self-image, or embarrass the child who is being disciplined. When possible, the child who is being
disciplined shall contribute to resolving the conflict with whom he/she was involved. Whenever possible, logical and natural
consequences will be used as a format for discipline. Only staff shall carry out any disciplinary
action, not volunteers, observers, or other children.
Staff will document
information related to the child's ability to function within the program,
noting factors that seem to contribute to the child's success, as well as areas
of concern. The YMCA will make
reasonable adjustments to accommodate the child's needs. A plan will be developed when specific
accommodations are to be made by the program.
This plan will also outline indicators of success for the child.
The following factors shall
contribute to good behavior management:
-
Modeling
by adults
-
Site
environment
-
Planned
activities
-
Related
curriculum
-
Ongoing
scheduled evaluations
-
Redirection
of children
-
Setting
clear limits
-
Development
of child's self-image
- Prohibited
punishments
A serious behavior problem
is defined as one in which a child is hampering the smooth flow of the program
requiring an extraordinary amount of attention:
is inflicting physical or emotional harm on self or others: or otherwise
unable to conform to the rules and guidelines of the program.
Depending on the individual
child and the circumstances, a variety of disciplinary measures are to be
considered:
-
Ignoring
may be an effective strategy for minor misbehavior, or for attention-seeking
behavior that does not interfere with or harm others
-
Logical
consequences, which may include repairing the damage or apologizing (if
genuine)
-
Re-direction
to a different activity or area
-
Review
of program rules
-
Negotiation
and mediation, especially in conflicts between children
-
Discussion,
including reflective listening
-
A
brief separation from the group
-
Written
behavior journals
-
Behavior
contract, outlining both what the staff can do to help the child and what the
child can do to improve behavior
- Termination
from the program
YMCA
DISCHARGE
The YMCA tries to meet the
needs of each child enrolled in our program.
We make every effort to communicate and work with the parent if there
are concerns. However, the YMCA reserves
the right to terminate enrollment of a child.
The decision to terminate a child's enrollment may fall into different
categories.
In the event that the YMCA
and the parents agree that the placement of child is inappropriate and/or not
in the best interest of the child, the written notification will be waived and
the withdrawal date can be set.
In the event that the parent
and the YMCA staff are unable to come to a mutually acceptable course of action
after identifying and processing a concern, the YMCA reserves the right to
terminate the enrollment of the child.
Every effort shall be made to work with the child and the family to
avoid termination. Termination will
occur as a last resort.
The YMCA reserves the right
to terminate enrollment for one or more of the following reasons:
The
program does not meet the needs of the child.
Factors to be considered in this decision may include:
-
Consistent problematic and disruptive behavior
-
Extra demands on staff time
-
Behavior detrimental emotionally or physically to the
others in the program
- Child cannot adjust to the program's environment
A
parent fails to meet their obligations as set forth by the YMCA, including but
not limited to the following reasons:
-
Non-payment or persistent late payment of fees
-
Failure to comply with the procedures for arrival and
departure of the child
-
Physical or verbal abuse of children or staff by the
parent
- Disrespect for policies and procedures of the day
camp program
