How does registration for group lessons work? How do I know what stage to register my child? What stages will be taught this session? Which age groups?

No worries, these are common questions! Registration and payment can be collected at the front desk of the YMCA. Please review our swim lesson selector guide for more information on which stage is right for your child. We will be teaching stages 1-6 for ages 5-12 this upcoming Fall session. If you would like an in-depth assessment on which stage your child should be placed please attend one of our free swim assesements on Saturdays from 1-2pm!

Why Does My Swim Vest Need to be U.S. Coast Guard Approved?

Skydivers wear their parachutes, football players wear their helmets, drivers wear their seatbelts, responsible swimmers wear their life vest! The YMCA has been America's swim teacher for over a century and it is our mission to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for the community and youth. We belive in following the practices and procedures upheld by the most reputable organizations, such as the U.S. Coast Guard, when it comes to water safety. While many store brand floaties and toys are popular, they are not designed to keep you safe while swimming. A USCG approved vest will keep you afloat and reduce the risk of injury. THe Prescott YMCA does not allow any non-USCG flotation devices while swimming in our facility. If you do not have a USCG vest we will be happy to let you borrow one of our vests while you swim!

Is Your Swimsuit Appropriate?

The YMCA is a family friendly facility. We must ensure that all swimwear is appropriate and safe for pool use. Street clothes, jeans, underwear, or any revealing attire will not be permitted for swimming. Swimsuits must adequatley cover the body and be appropriate for its intended use. Please take a look at our swimwear guidelines for our aquatics facility!

What the Y Pool being open means to me!

“The Prescott YMCA has stepped up to save the swimming community here in Prescott and the surrounding towns. Swimming is a way of life for many in our little corner of the world. We use swimming to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. We are happiest when we get our daily swim, visiting with like-minded individuals. The pool is our ‘happy place’. I am indebted to the YMCA for stepping up and opening the pool as soon as the CDC said it was safe to do so.  We are eternally grateful for letting us have our little slice of normalcy during this stressful time. Thank you!!!"  Brigid B.

“As a competitive swimmer/athlete I can say the words grateful, grateful, and grateful to have the YMCA available during the pandemic. I thank you for keeping it open as much as you were able to.” Jill A.

“An open lap pool at the Y is essential. Some of us are trying to stay competitive at the world, national, and state. Others of us lap swim for physical, mental, and social health. For many of us open lap swim is second only to open health care.”  Mark M.

"I've been swimming at the Y almost every day for over 20 years. I love the way it makes me feel, both short-term and long-term." Doug M.

My husband and I moved to Prescott about 2 years ago and one of the first things I did was join the Y. I have been a member of various Y's for years and always enjoyed the classes I took, along with meeting wonderful people. Well, I certainly wasn't disappointed when I joined the Prescott Y! The fitness classes I take are all taught by extremely enthusiastic and professional instructors, and I enjoy the variety of classes available, along with the days and times. The lifeguards at the pool are also very friendly and helpful, especially when we had to reserve lanes. Most important, the Y has provided me with a comfortable setting to meet like-minded people who share an interest in staying healthy while having fun. Many thanks for all you do for the community here in Prescott. Ginny S.

My new insurance this year included Silver Sneakers, so I checked out the YMCA early on, but then the pandemic hit.  When you opened again for limited swimming, I was thrilled!! And now with the fitness center and classes starting back up, I am ecstatic! I love the swimming pool, especially the diving board and water slide! The 36-step climb to the top of the water slide is great for training, as well. I like being able to try different classes, and have found some beyond my ability, but the Silver Sneakers class with Janice is phenomenal! I have found every person on the staff to be friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable and it is wonderful to be around people of all ages committed to Fitness. Penny N.
